 Hotel Els Frares offers a unique experience of rural Spain. Els Frares were the pioneers of rural tourism in the mountains of Alicante, of the Valencia state of eastern Spain. Hotel Rural Els Frares is based in the small traditional village of Quatretondeta, where time has stood still, in the north west of the Alicante province. (The Alicante province is Spain's most mountainous province).
From modest beginnings in 1993 when an old village property was converted to become Hotel Els Frares the project has continued its steady growth with adjoining properties being purchased. Over the years new elements have been added and now Els Frares offers 15 double or twin rooms, all with ensuite facilities, central heating and air conditioning. Ten of the rooms have their own private balcony or terrace and all rooms offer excellent views of the village of Quatretondeta , the Serrella mountain and the Vall de Seta. Each of the rooms is distinct and reflect the original styles and decoration. Many of the rooms have original hand made mosaic tiled floors. Most importantly all rooms have comfortable beds.
Unusually for little hotels in Spain, Els Frares has 4 relaxing and comfortable lounge areas giving plenty of space to find a quiet corner. You will find log fires in two of the lounges for those chilly winter evenings and all of the lounges have comfortable sofas and chairs.
Looking out onto the internal patio and its vines is the hotel bar with draft beer, a selection of fine wines and spirits. The new hotel restaurant opened in 2006, called “Les Agulles dels Frares” after the dramatic rock pinnacles above Quatretondeta on the Serrella mountain, offers fine Spanish cuisine and gourmet dishes with superb panoramic views of the mountains
 Quatretondeta is a quiet village with a population of around 100 people, located dramatically below the northern flank of the Sierra Serrella. It is only a short drive from better known villages such as Castell de Castells , Abdet, Guadalest and the historic towns of Cocentaina and Alcoy. It is only 1 hours drive from the busy and crowded northern Costa Blanca. It was recently described by a visiting journalist as being “50 kms and 50 years away from the Costa Blanca”. It is an ideal location for both activity breaks our simply just to relax and enjoy the rural tranquility.
